Franchard Ecotourism Center

Fontainebleau-Gâtinais Biosphere Reserve welcomes you at its ecotourism centre in the Gorges de Franchard! Located in the heart of the forest of Fontainebleau, it offers a large variety of activities suitable for all ages (exhibitions, themed walks, lectures, educational excursions, artistic and scientific ateliers…).

We believe that, in order to protect, one must first have the knowledge.

With the help of scientists and members of our staff, we strive to educate others about the environment and our surroundings.

Since 2017, the Franchard Ecotourism Center has been an exceptional showcase for promoting sustainable tourism, disseminating knowledge to the general public and schools, and sharing with elected officials and managers of protected areas practices adapted to the challenges of the territory!

How to arrive:

Centre d’écotourisme de Franchard,
Route de l’Ermitage
77 300 Fontainebleau

Be aware, that GPS does not always recognize the location of the center. The “Route de hermitage” is a forest road not meant for cars. The best way to access the center is by parking in the car park located at “parking des Gorges de Franchard” on the “route ronde” D301.

Here are the GPS coordinates to the car park: 48.408751187190234, 2.63907465074960.

    La ronde à vélo

Since 2012, with the support of the department of Seine-et- Marne, each year the Fontainebleau-Gâtinais Biosphere organizes the famous “Ronde à Vélo”. A part of the mythic forest road “Route Ronde”, which circles the forest of Fountainbleau, is temporarily closed to all motorized vehicles and reserved for cyclists of all ages! This event usually takes place on the second Sunday of October.

On the road, numerous activities are held to (re)discover the natural, cultural, and historical heritage. A Jazz manouche orchestra, food trucks, booths, creative workshops and more will be waiting for the rest and amusement of all age groups.

This event generated a territorial dynamic. From July to October, the department of Seine-et-Marne now offers a series of events to encourage slow tourism and reinforce cycling.

With the participation of Département 77, Seine et Marne Attractivité, the Office National des Forêts, local cycling associations, the Ville de Fontainebleau, Seine and Marne Environnement, the Musée du vélo de Moret-Sur-Loing, the SMICTOM, ATA Dannemois, and other associations established in the territory such as the Repair Café Avon.
